Client case study
Julie Sterling
Julie Sterling’s relationship with MVB Bank is a testament to the bank’s ability to power potential and cultivate trusted business partnerships.
As a successful businesswoman and an active member of the Northern Virginia community, Sterling is the area franchisee and developer for 54 The UPS Stores located throughout the region. She spends her days traveling from store to store to make sure her franchisees are doing everything to make the UPS customer experience flawless and to grow profits while positioning herself to add more locations.
Sterling said she could not have built her franchise without a strong partnership with MVB Bank. From business banking deposits to commercial acquisition loans for Sterling’s franchise owners, MVB has been there to help and remains intimately interested in understanding the business model.
“It is so important to have capital when you are growing your business,” Sterling said. “MVB makes it incredibly easy to work with them and get results. Their banking process happens quickly and effectively. I have recommended Kevin Corey and MVB Bank to many of my business contacts and franchisees.”
Sterling opened her first store in 2004 with the help of Kevin Corey, who is now manager of MVB’s newest banking center in McLean, Virginia. Six years later, she was offered the opportunity to purchase the entire Northern Virginia franchise territory from UPS—no small thing because UPS, a $66 billion organization in 200 countries, has been the top U.S. franchise in the postal business for 28 consecutive years.
“Julie is one of Northern Virginia’s great success stories, and we are very pleased and proud to work with her to grow her franchise,” Corey said. “She really is an illustration of what can be done with the right vision, the right skills, and a passion for excellence. All of us at MVB Bank look forward to helping her grow her business even more in the near future.”
Over the years, Corey and Garret Reed, MVB’s Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending, have developed a great relationship with Julie and her UPS Store franchise owners. It’s a connection Sterling truly appreciates as a business owner and one that helps power her franchises’ potential.
“Kevin and Garret were indispensable and are available to me 24/7,” Sterling said. “Kevin has attended several of my franchisee meetings and open houses and is an important member of my team.
“You don’t get that kind of personal care and attention from other banks, large or small,” she continued. “Other banks will make you wait weeks for an answer, and often, by that time, the opportunity is gone. MVB Bank is incredibly easy to work with, and they stay involved.”
